In November 2017 Council announced that the TTC will be adopting a two-hour fare transfer citywide. Beginning August 2018, riders will be able to tap their Presto card during peak hours and have unlimited rides for a two-hour period. Non peak hours to be introduced later in September 2018. Public transit continues to be essential to many of our main streets, and this new transit fare system will encourage commuters to stop and shop at many local neighbourhood businesses.
The greatest benefit from this policy change stems from reducing the cost of transit, making it more affordable for multiple short distance trips, thereby giving TTC customers the flexibility they require to carry out everyday activities. This will encourage off-peak ridership, adding an estimated 5 million customer trips per year.
